An Intoduction to Allotment Keeping and Vegetable Gardening

Welcome to the site. This website is intended to serve as a repository for useful information about vegetable gardening for the novice and more experienced amateur horticulturalist. It is written on the back of 6 years experience tending two council allotment plots in Norwich, UK.
Plot 252A Bluebell North
I have tended plot 252A of Norwich's Bluebell North allotments since April 2002. When I
first took it on, half the area was covered with brambles and the other half with couch
grass.
My methods in clearing this are described in the ground
preparation section.
Plot 41A Bluebell South
Having achieved success on my first plot, I found myself with a shortage of suitable ground for potatoes. Reasons for this will be made clear in the crop rotation section. I took up a second plot in late 2006 to get more ground allowing proper rotation. The plot was covered in brambles, with some fruit trees worth saving. The shed required extensive rebuilding.
Where to read about gardening offline
When I started, I lacked knowledge of how to garden successfully. I have gained a lot of useful knowledge from the book "Fruit and Vegetable Gardening", Michael Pollock, 2002, (Editor in Chief), Doring Kindersley, London. ISBN 0 7513 3683 1.
